Kovács Lake, Tokaj

Kovács-tó at Tokaj is not one lake but several: Faházas, Nomád and Élmény — the last of these formerly called the Feeder lake. The channel has filmed five videos in the complex so far, almost all of them on Faházas; there is footage from Élmény, but no video yet.

The recurring epithet for Faházas is “the lake of records” — not without reason: the videos include personal bests of twenty-nine kilos and over thirty, and several other personal records.

Faházas runs six swims. The video states it precisely, rod count included: six swims, six rods each, thirty-six rods on the water.

The defining feature of the bed is deep silt — according to the video not just in patches but across essentially the whole lake, except for the spots that are fished often, which the fish themselves keep clean. Finding and hitting the firm areas — or the promising silt transitions — is therefore the central problem here.

Marker buoys and a bait boat are both used for that in the videos. There is one known firm spot with no buoy on it, which can also be found from memory. Wind has a say too: thanks to the steady airflow, some pegs sit in a luckier position than others.

For fish, the videos include one over twenty-three kilos on a feeder rod, and sizes over thirty kilos come up as well.
